Step by Step: Character Design Process

The Character design process is an easy one to follow as I have tried and tested it myself one of the key steps is to find and gather photographs of what material the character is made out of what eyes and feet look like etc.

pinterestPinterest: Is a great way of gathering these photographs a very simple and easy way.

Well done!!! Next we need to look at what kind of character you would like to make, I recommend this book “Writing and Illustrating the Graphic Novel” it really helped me. There are some key points from the book and it would be good i you could do this with every character you make as it makes your character more believable and will help you draw it accurately.

What does your Character Do?

What Interests does your Character have?

Where does your Character live?

What is your Characters secret?

What does your Character want?

Do some sketching like the above find out whether you want it too look menacing and evil or too adorable to resist. I told you Character design wasn’t that hard this is where we revert back to pinterest for example if I wanted to make mine an “Egg Character” I need to know what an Egg looks like instead of guessing which is the sin of the Art world in Character Design always have a reference.

Ready for the Final Draft? Use different types of pencils for this I used a 3B, HB and 3H and then to stop it from disintegrating the paper weird I know, and to reduce smudging Get your hair out!!! And spray over the page. We are at the end now don’t forget to share and follow me on Twitter/Tumblr/Instagram: @ArtyAspie

Our Irreplaceable Body

a0827c572db939acc69e6d791ff67241-d8d3sgq

We look at drawings like this and we see that maybe we don’t have the accuracy of a camera but we have heart and we put passion into what we draw, it took me 3 days to complete this drawing where as a camera could snap a photo in 3 seconds. So why you may ask is the point? I would like to explore this question a little bit more. The Human body is a complex machine that has thousands of difference processes going on at the same time which is topped by a an equally complex sorting center that we call the brain, so What is the difference between the our Body and the Robot. This scenario will show you the answer:

You are at the opticians as you look around you the peoples faces are blurred and as you strain to pick out the features in their faces you feel a terrible pain in your head , they sit you down and say I’m sorry we can’t fix it. Yet in a parallel universe the same thing happens but the result is different they say Good News! we can replace your eye with a Robotic Eye isn’t that great! It won’t look the same but that won’t matter it means you can see better.

Now if I am right the second option disgusts you whats more I am guessing that you are thinking “When will it stop soon they will start replacing everything we have with robotic replacements” It is this natural reaction I am counting on it is called “Body Perception” which means that you view your body as yours and utterly irreplaceable it is this that separates us from our robotic counterparts.

Can Art CHANGE the WORLD?

2014 - 1(3)

This is a very good question and one I endeavor to answer and I also aim to provide a reason for this and some insight into how it can be accomplished however you apply it in Singing, Performance or Art in General so LISTEN UP.

This is a big question and therefore be broken down into manageable parts.

Firstly ART this can be anything from Singing to painting what I wounder is the actual definition?

“the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”
So basically anything that is appreciated for beauty or emotional power is Art and Yes that includes me and you.

What is CHANGE?

“make or become different”

Change is impacting society around you sharing an idea or a philosophy and have it become contagious to cultures all around the world. Personally change to me is about changing even if it is just one perception of the individuals around me an extending that, I think no matter what it is that you do whatever your expression is it can create this.

The WORLD You might say well this is impossible! Think about the world in this way the World is a body once an infection takes hold and multiplies it becomes stronger and overpowers the body making the defenses and oppositions in the body weak. Ideas are like this whatever it is that you are trying to express to the World whatever message you are desperate to share can create change, if you believe in it strong enough there is no way that it can not influence the world around you. You know why? Because ideas are contagious as the great Sherlock Holmes said himself to paraphrase:

“Once an idea takes hold in there it is too strong to eradicate”

And he is right an idea is something that will be passed from generation to generation I mean look at the idea that Blue is for boys and Pink is for girls and in most of western society we still hold to this principle although we have long forgotten why it is so or what the origin of the idea was in the first place.

So you want to change the World with whatever art it is that you do then don’t just share an idea but let it become infectious let it be a voluntary thing where they believe in the idea so much that that they believe it originated from them and belongs to them.

Art: Perspective

Perspective

So PERSPECTIVE scary word! It is actually very easy and there are some very easy, simple steps that you can use to accomplish this as well. This is my first go of perspective and I thought initially that it would be very difficult and time consuming, Ok well it is time consuming I’m not gonna lie.

I will be making a YouTube video to follow up on how to do this in the coming days…

There are a few types of perspective but they generally start out like this:

They all start with a point a single dot in one point perspective yes you guessed it there is only one dot in two point perspective two dots where they go depends on where you want the horizon to be. You draw the lines of the street or the room all aiming for the dot in the horizon, you will need:

  1. Ruler
  2. Pencil HB
  3. Paper
  4. Photo of textures and materials you will use in your street or room

All of the lines that go more or less vertically need to be in line with the dot or dots depending on which dot the lines are closest to if you notice all of the horizontal lines are straight and do not point towards the dot.

If you found this at least slightly helpful share it with a friend or follow me on Twitter or on WordPress to hear about the update of my YouTube Art Channel.

Have a nice day : )

What is Real Art?

Many people ask the question. Some say well Art is the down to the admirer anything can be Art, but can it really Art is a very wide category but since when did Art become a squiggle and why what forced people to try out modern Art? Well it only took one thing in history to banish fine Artists and put them out of the job, any ideas? The CAMERA yes it captures images perfectly why would people need a drawing of the outside world if they could have an amazing Photograph. So did the Camera kill Art again the answer is Yes and No it damaged Fine Art, but made Art grow in other ways here are just a few:

  1. Anime
  2. Cartoon
  3. Manga
  4. Fantasy
  5. Comic
  6. Abstract

So are these all forms of Art? It may help to get the original definition of Art and see whether they meet the criteria.

“the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”

So yes all these forms of Art have someone who admires them or they create political change just like the Renaissance. Anything that can be appreciated for what it is or for what philosophy it represents is Art.
